Nimal Lanza denies involvement in garbage issue

(UTV|COLOMBO) –  United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian (MP) Nimal Lanza has denied claims that he obstructed the disposal of garbage at Kerawalapitiya.

The disposal of garbage at a site in Kerawalapitiya has been suspended by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation.

The Chairman of the Corporation Roshan Gunewardene said the suspension comes in the wake of UPFA MP Nimal Lanza and several of his supporters obstructing the dumping of garbage at the site.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle, Mr. Lanza has challenged the Chairman of the corporation for an open debate on the matter.

He said the Chairman of the Municipal Council, the Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council, MPs, public representatives, former Local Government members and he visited the garbage dump.

The MP said the garbage mound destroys the Muthurajawela Sanctuary and the Negombo Lagoon, claiming the fish in the Hamilton Canal are dead and the mangroves that help flood control are being filled and sold.

MP Lanza noted such actions must be prevented.

He said the Chairman of the Megapolis Ministry must look into the concerns of residents as public representatives.
