PC & Presidential Elections not on same day

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Elections Commission says attention has not been directed to holding the Provincial Council Election and the Presidential Election on the same day.

Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya when contacted by a prominent online news portal has said such a proposal has been put forth to the Elections Commission.

Deshapriya has stated a discussion is due to be held between all election monitors in the coming week.

Election monitoring body the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election in a letter to the President, Prime Minister and the Speaker of House noted that holding the Provincial Council and Presidential Elections on the same day would save the government Rs.20 billion.
