FCID scans Batticaloa campus funding

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Police Financial Crimes Division (FCID) has launched a comprehensive investigation into the construction of the Batticaloa campus.

The officers attached to the FCID made submissions pertaining to the matter before Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.

UTV News Court correspondent said the court was informed that investigations are ongoing under the Money Laundering Act pertaining to the deposit of nearly 100 million USD from Saudi Arabia for the construction of the campus.

The plot of land was released by the Mahaweli Authority to the Hira foundation in May 2013 to construct a rural training centre.

UTV News Court Correspondent said the FCID investigation was launched following a complaint lodged by Parliamentarian Athuraliye Rathana thera.
