Ranjan to call on PM to explain controversial statement

(UTV|COLOMBO) – State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake says he will call on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and explain charges levelled against him pertaining to criticising the Maha Sangha.

The State Minister charged that a statement he made has been misinterpreted.

The Prime Minister on Monday requested State Minister Ramanayake to explain in writing the events behind his statement prior to the 21st of July.

State Minister Ramanayake said he will lodge a complaint at the Mirihana Police against those responsible for publicising his statement out of context.

Meanwhile speaking at an event yesterday President Maithripala Sirisena said regardless of whomever they are, or what position they hold, criticising the Maha Sangha is a grave error.

The Head of State said such statements cannot be approved and will be strongly opposed.
