“Making a controversy over Rajinikanth’s visit to Sri Lanka does not make sense” – Madhavan

(UDHAYAM, CHENNAI) – Actor R Madhavan spoke to TIMES NOW on the recent political debate that broke out over superstar Rajinikanth’s proposed visit to Sri Lanka and stated that it does not make sense to create a controversy at this point of time and that Rajinikanth, though he has taken a decision to avoid controversy, has made his stand very clear by asking people not to politicise his visit.

“We must understand that we are very vulnerable as actors. It is unfair that social issues get linked to us before the release of a film. You must understand that when you see a film, you see our face on it, you see Rajini sir’s face on it but 500 families are feeding off of what the outcome of the film is going to be,” said Madhavan, speaking exclusively to TIMES NOW.

Actor Rajinikanth had come under the fire of fringe groups and even political parties in Chennai who raised an objection to his visit to Sri Lanka.

Rajinikanth was scheduled to visit Jaffna in Sri Lanka to attend an event on April 9 where 150 free homes, constructed by Gnanam Foundation, will be given to Sri Lankan Tamils.

Those objecting to his trip had claimed that the Sri Lankan government, with the help of Lyca Productions, is attempting to “gloss over” the sufferings of Sri Lankan Tamils.
