CID informs Court no evidence to back claims on Dr. Shafi

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Thursday (27) informed Court that there was no evidence to back the allegations made against Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Shafi.

Meanwhile, Dr. Shafi has filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the allegations levelled against him were false. He has sought the intervention of the Supreme Court to dismiss the allegations against him and order his release from detention.

He was initially arrested over allegedly accumulating assets via illegal means.

The petition, filed on behalf of Dr. Shafi, stated that the charges including sterilisation allegations were a result of personal dispute which followed from a purchasing of land in Kurunegala.
