Speaker hits back at President’s remarks on PSC

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Any Public Servant summoned by the Parliamentary Special Committee (PSC) is obliged to give evidence, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya stated in a hard-hitting two-page response to President Maithripala Sirisena’s statement that he does not accept the conduct of the PSC appointed to inquire into the Easter Sunday attacks.

“Officials are fully aware of the serious consequences if they fail to respond,” Jayasuriya stressed.

President Sirisena disapproved summoning State Intelligence Officers before the PSC and revealing sensitive information.

He said that he will not permit any Security Officer in active duty to appear before the Committee and he will accept their responsibility.

The President made these remarks at the monthly meeting with the Senior Officials of the Police Department at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday (07).
