UNHRC members to conclude deliberating on SL

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The time-frame provided to member states to deliberate on the new proposal on Sri Lanka presented at the 34th session of the United Nations Human Right Council (UNHRC) concludes today (21st Tuesday).

A proposal was presented to provide necessary facilities for the promotion and protection of human rights and to provide an extension of the timeline for fulfillment of commitments made in consensual Resolution 30/1 adopted in October 2015.

Montenegro, Macedonia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America sponsored the proposal.

Subsequently, a further six world powers co-sponsored the proposal presented by Sri Lanka.

The recommendations for the proposal on Sri Lanka will be considered till today, following which, the report will be officially accepted.
