“All citizens bound by a common rule” – Speaker Karu Jayasuriya

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Speaker of House Karu Jayasuriya says all citizens should be bound by a common law within the country regardless of religious and racial practices.

Speaking during an event in Colombo Speaker Jayasuriya said no individual will be allowed to breach the country’s law based on religious beliefs.

The Speaker noted the Muslim community in its entirety should not be scrutinised owing to the actions of a few extremists adding the majority of the Muslim community has extended their support in eradicating extremism.

Speaker Jayasuriya stressed, Parliament will expedite measures to introduce new laws with the aim of preventing underage marriages.

The Speaker claimed a large number of Muslims have stepped forward for the betterment of the country.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said the dreams of extremists will not be a reality adding their actions at present have heavily hampered the Muslim community.
