Navy apprehends 3 persons with Kerala cannabis

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A team of naval personnel apprehended three persons with 76.6kg of Kerala cannabis whilst a patrol carried out in northern seas, yesterday (15).

Accordingly, a team of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command apprehended these persons with the haul of Kerala cannabis during a patrol carried out in the seas off Mamune Champiyanpaththu. It is believed that the smugglers had tried to transfer this haul of Kerala cannabis to Sri Lanka by a dinghy.

The suspects haul of Kerala cannabis and the dinghy is due to be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau, Jaffna.

As a result of increased patrols and continuous search carried out by the Navy in island’s waters, this haul of cannabis was seized and the Navy will continue to conduct its patrols in territorial waters of the island to prevent any form of illegal activities taking place at sea.
