Easter Blasts in Sri Lanka: Special Investigation Committee appointed [UPDATE]

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday (22) appointed a Special Investigation Committee headed by the Supreme Court Judge Vijith Malalgoda, former Ministerial Secretary Pathmasiri Jayamanna, and the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) N. K. Illangakoon.

The Committee will study the reasons that pave the way for the bombings on Sunday (21), and submit its report within 2-weeks to the President.

At least 290 people were killed and 500 more injured in a series of explosions across Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, one of the most sacred days of the year for Christians.
