Rathgama Murders: 15 Police Officers, 2 Forest Rangers further remanded

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Fifteen Police Officers attached to the Southern Province Special Crimes Investigation Unit and 2 Forest Rangers, who were arrested over the murders of the two businessmen of Rathgama, have been further remanded till 22 April.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the Police Officers and the Forest Reserve Officer following lengthy questioning over murders.

Currently, 15 Police Officers including the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Police Special Investigations Unit of the Southern Province and 2 Rangers of the Forest Reserve where the bodies were found are in remand custody in connection with the deaths of two businessmen, 33-year-old Manjula Asela and 31-year-old Rasen Chinthaka who were abducted from the residence of Asela by a group of individuals dressed in uniforms similar to that of the Police Officers.

The investigations conducted by the CID have revealed that the two missing businessmen were murdered in Akmeemana and their remains were burned at Medagangoda Forest Reserve in Walasmulla.
