Power shortage: Govt. can’t run away from responsibility – Premier

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The government couldn’t run away from the responsibility of resolving the power crisis, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said at a meeting at Temple Trees today.

“The power crisis today would have been avoided if Sri Lanka went ahead with the construction of three LNG plants,” Premier Wickremesinghe had told the ministers.

According to informed sources, the Prime Minister had come up with this sentiment at a discussion he had with the ministers at Temple Trees today.

“Sri Lanka had discussions with India, China and Japan to construct three LNG Power plants with their assistance from August 2015 to October 2018.The projects never got off the ground despite the agreements. Who should be responsible for this?” he had asked the MPs.
