“National consensus can overcome power crisis” – Karu Jayasuriya

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Speaker of House Karu Jayasuriya says the country can overcome the present power crisis by reaching a national consensus on implementing a set of proposals.

The Speaker, who was also a one-time Minister of Power and Energy said instead of hurling allegations at one another, all stakeholders must work on a specific agenda.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said he is hopeful that a permanent solution can be reached to the prevailing electricity crisis by implementing recommendations of the Power and Minister Ravi Karunanayake-led Committee.

On Tuesday, a four-member Ministerial Committee was appointed to look into the power crisis and provide due solutions.

The committee was appointed during the weekly Cabinet of Ministers meeting.

Accordingly the committee comprises of Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, Kabir Hashim, Dr. Harsha De Silva and State Minister Eran Wickramaratne.
