Bambalapitiya Hit-and-Run: Driver further remanded

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Driver of the defender vehicle, who was remanded over a hit-and-run incident in Bambalapitiya, that resulted the death of the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) attached to the Traffic Division of Borella Police Station, has been further remanded till 18 March by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Monday (11).

The OIC attached to the Traffic Division of Borella Police Station, who was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident in Bambalapitiya last month, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (09) at the National Hospital in Colombo.

The defender vehicle, WP FZ 9143 which fled following a hit-and-run that led to critical injuries of the OIC has been discovered at a residence in Pelawatte, Battaramulla.

The vehicle was identified after footage of security cameras in the area where the hit-and-run took place were observed.

Eight persons including the son of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage were arrested by the Police in connection with the accident, and later released on bail while the driver was remanded.
