Chaminda Wijesiri granted bail [UPDATE]

(UTV|COLOMBO) – UPDATE: Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court granted bail to the United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri who has been accused of assaulting a Police Constable attached to the Narcotics Division of the Bandarawela Police, after surrendering to the Court on Wednesday (13).

(UTV|COLOMBO) – United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri on Wednesday (13) surrendered to the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court over the alleged assault of a Police Constable attached to the Narcotics Division of the Bandarawela Police.

Several well-placed sources speculated that the Parliamentarian has surrendered to the Court through a Lawyer.

The Police Constable was allegedly assaulted by Wijesiri’s personal security detail over a traffic dispute on Sunday (10). Wijesiri also accused of being involved in the assault.

The Police on Monday (11) arrested the Driver of the Parliamentarian and produced him before a Magistrate who ordered that he be remanded till 18 February.

The Police Constable is currently receiving treatment at the Bandarawela Hospital.
