Police obtains Speaker’s permission to arrest UNP’s Chaminda Wijesiri

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Several well-placed sources speculated that the Police have obtained the permission of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to arrest the United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri who was accused of allegedly assaulting a Police Constable attached to the Narcotics Division of the Bandarawela Police.

The Police Constable was allegedly assaulted by Wijesiri’s personal security detail over a traffic dispute on Sunday (10). Wijesiri also accused of being involved in the assault.

The Police on Monday (11) arrested the Driver of the Parliamentarian and produced him before a Magistrate who ordered that he be remanded till 18 February.

The Police Constable is currently receiving treatment at the Bandarawela Hospital.
