Parliament adjourned following uproar as Speaker defends CC

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Parliament adjourned for a meeting of Party Leaders on Thursday (07) following uproar over Speaker Karu Jayasuriya’s statement defending the Constitutional Council (CC)’s actions as opposed to the remarks made by President Maithripala Sirisena on the CC in Parliament.

The President yesterday (06) in Parliament expressed his dissatisfaction over the CC for not informing him reasons for turning down twelve names suggested by him to be appointed as Judges.

President Sirisena also questioned about the availability of regulations and guidelines for the CC to follow when assessing the skills and abilities of persons if they are not assessed on their seniority.
