Sri Lanka Navy rejects allegations of shooting Indian fishermen

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Navy categorically denied reports released by Indian media that an Indian fisherman died after his vessel was shot at by Sri Lankan Navy.

Navy Media spokesman Lieutenant Commander Chaminda Walakuluge said that Navy personnel are required to obtain permission from their commander prior to firing any shots.

Indian media have accused that the Sri Lankan Navy used small boats to shoot at the Indian fishermen.

However, the Navy spokesman pointed out that small boats are used only to transport passengers.
