Indian fishing trawler sank after collision with Lankan Naval Ship

(UTV|COLOMBO) – An Indian fishing trawler had sunk, South of Delft Island on 28 November when it collided with a Sri Lanka Naval ship, the Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday (29).

The Foreign Ministry stressed that the incident happened while the Sri Lanka Navy was escorting approximately thirty Indian fishing trawlers that had been poaching within Sri Lankan waters.

The collision with Sri Lanka Naval Ship Edithara II had occurred due to the aggressive manoeuvring of the trawlers and the poor visibility that prevailed at the time of the incident.

The Sri Lanka Navy had rescued the four-member crew and some of the items on board.

The rescued crew along with the items will be produced to the Kankesanthurei Police Station for further legal action.
