ACMC hails Speaker, calls for high level inquiry

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) hailed Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on Friday (16) for his courageous stand against “Anti-democratic forces.” ACMC also calls to initiate a high level inquiry on yesterday’s incidents.

“ACMC hails bravery of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya who dared violence against our august House that sprung today. This violence was the most shameful conduct seen in our Parliament to-date and a red letter day for the decorum of our Parliament. We Thank Speaker Jayasuriya for saving our democracy from the brink,” said the Leader of ACMC, Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen immediately after leaving the House on Friday.

“We condemn attacks on our Speaker and call for high level inquiry on this conduct. ACMC always stands up for individual freedom and free and fair conduct of Parliamentarians. That is a cornerstone of Parliamentary democracy that has never been violated since independence. Therefore these violent events in Parliament bring our august House to its lowest point in its history since independence and also international disrepute” ACMC Leader Bathiudeen added.

ACMC has no less than five Parliamentarians in Parliament.
