17 Indian fishermen apprehended for poaching in Lankan waters [VIDEO]

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Navy apprehended seventeen Indian fishermen along with three fishing trawlers for engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters on Monday (29).

Two of these fishing trawlers were held by Naval Personnel attached to Fast Attack Craft (FAC) in the Northern Naval Command in the sea area off the Delft Island. The remaining trawler was apprehended by Naval Personnel on-board an FAC belonging to the same Naval Command in the sea area of Kachchathivu.

Subsequently, the apprehended fishers and their trawlers were brought to the Naval establishment ‘SLNS Elara’. After conducting a medical test, the group of fishermen were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Jaffna for onward action.
