(UTV|COLOMBO) – UPDATE: Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa assumed duties as the 22nd Prime Minster of Sri Lanka, a short while ago.

The ceremonial event was held in Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (29).

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Newly appointed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will assume duties on Monday (29).

Former President Rajapaksa was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the country before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday (26).

His swearing-in ceremony was held after the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) officially conveyed its decision to part ways with the Coalition Government.
