Scout Movement should move forward with new technology & knowledge – President

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena says, the policies and objectives of the Scout movement founded by Lord Baden-Powell was prepared according to the economic, social and cultural features of the then society and amendments should be made to in par with the modern world based on knowledge and technology while protecting the original values of the movement.

He made these remarks participating in the President’s Scout Award 2014-2018 ceremony held at the Cooperative Institute in Polgolla, today (20).

President Sirisena further said that the success of children’s future could not decide only the reason of passing examinations and the Scout Movement will provide a great opportunity to overcome the practical challenges we face in our lifetime.

1195 scouts representing 37 districts received awards at this ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Scout Association.

President Sirisena also launched the new website of the Sri Lanka Scout Movement.

The President also extended his best wishes to the scouts participating in the Air Scout Jamboree.

Sri Lanka Scout Association presented a special award to the President in recognition of great contribution towards the Sri Lanka Scout Movement.

Recalling the financial sponsorship provided by the President to the Kandy Dharmaraja College Scout Group troops who took part in climbing mountain in Nepal, a special honorary award was presented to the President.

The Governor of the Central Province, P.B. Dissanayake, the Chief Minister SarathEkanayake, the Chief Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association MerilGunathilake and others participated in this occasion.
