Green gram’s Import tax will be increased

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Speaking during an event in Ambalanthota Minister of Agriculture Amaraweera said, steps will be taken to increase the import tax on green gram by next year.

The Minister said the government hopes to protect farmers, claiming failure to do so will result in farmers withdrawing from the trade.

Minister Amaraweera added in the coming year when the yield of the green gram cultivation is obtained the government will double the tax on green gram.

He noted, then the price of green gram will be set at Rs.50 or Rs.100 more than the current price.
