“New constitution will resolve national issues” – Mujibur Rahman

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – United National Party (UNP) says a clear opportunity has arisen to enact a new constitution for the country that would resolve all issues within the nation.

Speaking during an adjournment debate in Parliament, MP Mujibur Rahman said this could be made a reality through the unification of the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Parliamentaran Rahman said when provincial councils were established they said the government was trying to divide the country adding that by instigating violence they created chaos and tried to set fire to the country and they did.

The MP said today it is evident that even though provincial councils were established, the country wasn’t torn apart adding that power devolution can be observed to some extent across provinces and those who opposed it now reap the benefits.

MP Mujibur Rahman said the government has received a final opportunity to unite, for the Sri Lanka Freedom party and the Unite National Party to unite as one and provide a political solution to the national issue adding that and opportunity has been received to solve this and enact a new constitution that can be accepted by all.
