SLPP to invite Mahinda Rajapaksa to take over Party Leadership

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is seeking to appoint former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Party Leader before the end of this year, SLPP Chairman Professor G. L. Peiris said on Monday (01).

Peiris said that since the SLPP will be celebrating two-years in November, it will be ideal that Rajapaksa be appointed the Party Leader.

Rajapaksa is a Member of Parliament (MP) elected under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) ticket and is a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

The Rajapaksa camp in the recent times has been promoting Rajapaksa’s younger brother Gotabaya to be the candidate in the next election which must be called by the end of next year and must be held before 08 January, 2020.
