Police opened fire at a van in Peelikada Junction in Kurunegala

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A group of Policemen had congregated at a filling station at the Peelikada Junction last evening to make an arrest upon a tip-off received that a stock of heroin was being transported in a van.

Police last evening opened fire at a van that failed to heed police orders at the Peelikada Junction in Kurunegala.

Police said a suspect was arrested while a stock of heroin was also seized.

However the van driver had knocked over two Police motorbikes, who were riding alongside the van, and had attempted to flee.

During the suspects attempt to flee, Police had opened fire at the van.

The injured suspect is receiving treatment at the Kurunegala General Hospital under Police protection.
