Army troops deployed to clean oil patches in Muthurajawela Seas

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Troops of the 1 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 2 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps of the Security Force Headquarters – West (SFHQ-West) on the directions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake and the Commander, Security Forces – West (SF-West) Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage rushed to the coastal belt around Muthurajawela, North of Colombo and assisted the clearance of an oil patch floating in the seas Sunday afternoon (09).

The oil patch believed to have been either leaked or spilled from a vessel has been spot by the Coastal Guards before Sri Lanka Army and Naval troops were kept informed.

Three Officers and 58 Other Rankers of the Army attended to the emergency need and cleaned up polluted waters since it would pose a threat to marine consolation and the environment.
