Deniswaran’s petition to CoA Wiggy noticed to appear on 18 Sept

UTV | COLOMBO – The Court of Appeal (CoA) yesterday (7), ordered Chief Minister (CM) of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC), C.V. Wigneswaran, and NPC members, Anandi Sasitharan and C. Sivanesan to appear in Court on 18 September, in connection with the petition filed by NPC member B. Deniswaran, who had been removed from the post of NPC Fisheries Minister by Wigneswaran.

Wigneswaran has already been charged with contempt of Court over his failure to implement an order given by the Court.

The petition was considered before Justice Janak de Silva.

Having considered the petition filed by Deniswaran, the Court ordered Wigneswaran on 29 June to reinstate the former in his portfolio at the NPC.

However, Deniswaran had filed a petition in the Court claiming that the order issued by the Court had not been carried out by Wigneswaran and hence that the latter should be charged with being in contempt of Court.

Having considered the petition, the Court ordered Wigneswaran, Sasitharan and Sivanesan to appear in Court yesterday and they did. Later, the interim injunction issued against Wigneswaran, preventing him from removing Deniswaran from his Ministerial post at NPC was extended to 9 October.

The Court also ordered the respondents in the to file objections, if any, against the petition before the next date.
