Vijayakala In Trouble: AG Instructs IGP To Initiate Legal Action Against Vijayakala’s Statement On Reviving LTTE

UTV | COLOMBO – Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya has instructed IGP Pujith Jayasuriya to file legal action against UNP Jaffna District Parliamentarian Vijayakala Maheswaran.

The instruction has been given by the AG after examining the report of am inquiry conducted by the Police Organized Crimes Division on a statement made by Maheswaran in Jaffna.

Speaking at a public event in her district, Maheswaran said the LTTE, a banned terrorist organization, should be revived to ensure the well-being of Tamils in her area.

Two Cabinet Ministers, namely Thilak Marapana and Vajira Abeywardena were present at the ceremony where Maheswaran made this statement.

Following the statement, Maheswaran came under severe pressure to resign from her state ministerial portfolio.

A police investigation was initiated into the criminal aspect of her statement.

The Police also summoned Maheswaran to the Organized Crimes Division and recorded her statement.

In her statement, the former State Minister had reportedly said she did not intend to glorify or promote the LTTE or its principles when making the controversial statement.
