Action against 1,200 vendors

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Industry and Commerce says legal action has been taken against over 1,200 vendors for selling rice above the control price.

Issuing a statement, the Ministry said over 4,000 raids was carried out island wide.

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) yesterday (20th Monday) carried out instant raids island wide and inspected 137 shops.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said cases have been filed against 52 vendors for selling rice above the control price imposed by the government.

The statement said raids will be carried out across the island to nab vendors who do not adhere to regulations set out by the government.
