President to meet SAITM students’ parents

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena is due to engage in a discussion with parents of students of the Malabe South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine.

The discussion was scheduled to take place yesterday (20th Monday), however, the Head of State proposed to hold two separate discussions with the management of SAITM and the parents of students who attended SAITM.

Accordingly, a discussion was held between the management of SAITM and President Sirisena yesterday. The discussion between the parents of SAITM students and the President will be held today (21st Tuesday).

Doctors at state hospitals in the Southern Province have decided to engage in a four hour strike today in opposition of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine or SAITM.

Accordingly, the Government Medical Officers’ Association said the strike will be in effect from 8am to 12pm today.

A demonstration has also been organized by doctors and medical students at 1pm while a rally is scheduled to take place in Galle as well.
