(UTV|COLOMBO) – Stage II of the Wayamba Ela Project will inaugurate under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday (24).
The project will supply water to the Northern Province minimising the water scarcity faced by the people in the Province in irrigating farmland. Accordingly, waters from the Mahaweli will be diverted from the Eastern Province to the Northern Province.
The President launched the first stage of the North Western Province Canal Project (NWPCP) on 13 February last year.
