Tense situation in Welikada Prison under control, 11 injured, 52 inmates transferred

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A tense situation which took place in Welikada Prison on Monday (20) has been brought under control, the Prison Officials said.

A tense situation was reported from the Prison yesterday after clashes erupted between protesting group of female inmates and Prison Officials, injuring at least three inmates and eight Prison Officials.

In-order to diffuse the tense situation, Authorities transferred 52 female inmates who they believe initiated the unrest within the Prison premises.
