Railway Unions to strike again

(UTV|COLOMBO) Secretary of the Locomotive Engineers Union Indika Dodangoda said, several unions convened for a special meeting today afternoon, and noted that the unions have decided to grant the government until the next Cabinet meeting, to tackle their demands.

Thereafter they threatened to launch another indefinite strike from next Tuesday (21), over the purported failure to address salary anomalies of railway employees.

Secretary Indika Dodangoda added that the railway employees are disappointed at the failure of the Cabinet to discuss the proposal pertaining to salary anomalies of railway workers at yesterday’s meeting.

However Co-Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senaratne said the Cabinet has granted approval to appoint a special Salaries Commission to look into the salaries in the entire state sector and removing salary anomalies.
