GMOA called to temporarily suspend Sri Lanka – Singapore FTA

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) on Monday (13) called to temporarily suspend the implementation of the Sri Lanka – Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA), until the findings of the report submitted by the Independent Experts Committee.

An Independent Experts Committee has been appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena, to conduct a special study on the Sri Lanka – Singapore FTA and to submit a report to the President.

Former Vice Chancellor of the Colombo University and Emeritus Professor of Economics Deshamanya W. D. Lakshman, has been appointed as the Chairman of this five-member Committee.

Its other members are Sirimevan Colombage, an Emeritus Professor of Economics of the Open University, Ajitha Tennakoon, Emeritus Professor of Economics at the Kelaniya University, Dr. Santha Jayanetti, Independent Consultant and R.A. Jayatissa former Assistant Governor of the Central Bank.
