Special Committee to Probe Panaliya Train Accident

(UTV|COLOMBO) At least 32 passengers were injured and hospitalized after a train journeying from Colombo to Rambukkana had collided with the train ahead of it, which was bound for Kandy from Colombo, at the Panaliya area in Polgahawela late last evening (6).

The accident had also disrupted train services on the upcountry railway line while several trains including the night mail train which was to travel from Colombo to Badulla last night was also cancelled.

A special committee has been appointed to look into yesterday’s train collision at Panaliya in Polgahawela.

Additional General Manager of Railways Dr. Wijaya Samarasinghe stated that this committee was appointed to carry out preliminary investigations into the cause of the accident.

However, the Additional General Manager of Railways said that as of now train services can operate along one track on the upcountry railway line.
