Sexual assault on foreigner: Police rules out involvement of Danushka Gunathilaka

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lankan Cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been dismissed for his alleged involvement in the sexual assault on a foreigner as there was no evidence to suggest he was associated with the incident, well-placed Police sources revealed.

Police has arrested a close friend of Danushka Gunathilaka over a harassment complaint made by a Norwegian woman, stating that she was raped at a hotel in Kollupitiya on Saturday (21).

Danushka Gunathilaka’s name had also been mentioned in the complaint lodged by the 23-year-old Norwegian woman, claiming that he was in the vicinity when the incident allegedly occurred.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to suspend Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of international cricket for breaching the Player Code of Conduct, pending inquiry.

The SLC will also withhold Danushka Gunathilaka’s fee for the ongoing Test match until the outcome of the inquiry.
