Dayan Jayatilleka’s Ambassador nomination suspended

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka’s nomination as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia has temporarily suspended by the Parliamentary Select Committee on High Posts.

The appointment was temporarily suspended due to several petitions filed by experts in various sectors against Dr. Jayatilleka.

President Maithripala Sirisena has made nomination to appoint Dr. Jayatilleka as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia to which Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has not objected.

Dr. Jayatilleka was a strong confidante of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and has of late backed a probable Presidential bid by Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
