Mahela requests not to shift historic Galle Cricket Stadium

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Captain Mahela Jayawardena has urged Authorities and the Government not to shift the historic Galle Cricket Stadium to a new location.

Jayawardena made this request in a message shared to his Twitter page, stating “This is sad! Galle cricket ground has a unique place in international test cricket history for its location. Also one of the most successful venues for the national team. I would like to plead and humbly request authorities and SL Government to reconsider this decision.”

The Government is considering shifting the Galle Cricket Stadium as there is a risk of Galle losing its UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) world heritage site status.
