“Action against Ministers protecting underworld,” Prime Minister assures

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed Parliament that an investigation has been launched into reports that a Government Minister was protecting five underworld leaders.

A media report on Tuesday (17) quoted a senior Police Officer as saying that five underworld leaders had been appointed as the private bodyguards of a Minister.

The media report said that the Police were unable to arrest the five underworld leaders as they had the support of the Minister.

Wickremesinghe said that the media report did not quote the name of the Police Officer who gave the details so the newspaper was asked to furnish information related to the allegation.
