Mujibur suggests death penalty for Prison Officers abetting convicted drug traffickers

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Colombo District United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman in a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena has requested imposing death penalty also on Prison Officers who are abetting the convicted drug traffickers committing various organised crimes from jail.

Rahman in his letter has pointed out that some Prison Officers are indirectly assisting the underworld by colluding with the convicted death row felons.

The Parliamentarian said that the majority of the convicted drug traffickers are in jails for committing crimes due to poverty but the many VIP drug traffickers conducting large scale drug rackets live luxuriously with the assistance of certain politicians.

The Government should first send the VIP (Very Important Person) drug dealers to the noose, Rahman said, suggesting that the Government should immediately conduct an investigation into the prison officials who became rich instantly.
