Gotabaya says he is ready to contest Presidential Elections

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa says he is prepared to contest the next Presidential elections.

Rajapaksa has said this in an interview with the Veerakesari newspaper which was published on Saturday (14).

In the interview, Rajapaksa also said that it was clear slain LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabakaran was never committed to peace talks.

He said that Prabakaran had several opportunities to reach a negotiated settlement to the conflict yet he never made use of those opportunities.

Rajapaksa said that one opportunity Prabakaran had was in 1987 through Indian mediation.

The former Defence Secretary said that if Prabakaran made use of the opportunity in 1987 he would have had the support of India and the international community.
