Monk kills a police officer in Ratnapura

UTV | COLOMBO – A police officer who had visited a temple in the Gallanda area to investigate a complaint had been allegedly murdered.

The police officer was attached to the Minor Complaints Unit of the Ratnapura Police.

The suspect was on an arrest warrant.

Police said a resident monk at the temple had strangulated the police officer to death.

Police Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the victim died while he was being taken to a hospital.

Then the Ratnapura Head Quarters Inspector had visited the temple and the suspect had attempted to hurl a hand grenade at him.

However, the HQI was able to arrest the monk.
