Ananda Kumarasiri elected Deputy Speaker

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Ananada Kumarasiri was elected the Deputy Speaker with a majority of 44 votes in Parliament on Tuesday (05) following a secret vote.

Mr. Kumarasiri obtained 97 votes and the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle obtained 53 votes while the Speaker declared 1 vote as invalid. A total of 73 Parliamentarians were absent.

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarians were absent.
