Twelve Regional Offices of Missing Persons

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Chairman of Missing Persons office President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris says that 12 Regional Offices of missing persons will be setup covering the entire country.

He said this to media following a public meeting in Matara. The second public meeting of the office of Missing Persons took place at Matara District Secretariat.

Relatives of the missing persons in Matara, Hambantota and Galle Districts were present at the meeting. Before the commencement of the meeting, relatives of the missing persons walked to the Divisional Secretariat from ‘Matara Bodhiya’ displaying photographs of their relatives.

Information on the people went missing during 1988/89 were given to the officials. Commissioners of the Missing Persons office Dr. Nimalka Fernando, Attorney at Law S.K. Liyanage, Kanapathipillai Venthan, Jayadeepa Punyamoorthi, retired Major General Mohanthi Peiris, Miraque Raheem and representatives of civil society organisations were present at the meeting.
