Sri Lanka commemorates War Heroes today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Nation will salute thousands of valiant service personnel who laid down their lives to save the country from the clutches of terrorism that had engulfed the country for more than three decades, at a ceremony attended by President Maihripala Sirisena at the War Heroes’ Memorial in Kotte.

An Aloka Pooja organised by the Sri Lanka Army to commemorate the fallen heroes of the nation will also be held at the historical Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya at 6.00 PM today (19) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, a release issued by the Presidential Media Division said.

The President will also attend the investiture ceremony to confer Vishista Seva Vibushana medals to 50 senior officials of the Tri Forces at the Presidential Secretariat at 9.00 AM today.

The Vishista Seva Vibushana is the highest medal given to country’s senior officials in the Armed Forces.

The Government has rendered great service for the welfare of War Heroes and their family members for the past three years under the directive of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President has also stressed that the service for the welfare of War Heroes and their family members will continue unabated and the government is committed to take every possible effort to promote their welfare and well-being.
