Train travel along the Kandy line disrupted

UTV | COLOMBO – A strike launched by railway station masters and staff last night (May 10), resulted in a halt in train services along the upcountry line beyond Rambukkana.

The Railways Main Control Room said that train journeys to Badulla and Kandy- Matale have been completely disrupted.

The night’s mail train plying from Badulla to Colombo and from Colombo Fort to Badulla had also terminated its journeys near Nawalapitiya train station, early this morning.

Commuters were greatly inconvenienced as a result of the Rambukkana railway station being closed early this morning without advance warning.

Recently a discrepancy in wages, led train controllers, station masters and train drivers to engage in another strike action which was later postponed following discussions.
