UTV | COLOMBO – Continuing on with New Year traditions, the national oil anointing ceremony will take place at 10.16 this morning (Apr. 16) at Attanagalla Purana Raja Maha Viharaya, under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
The ceremony has been jointly organized by the Ministry of Health, Indigenous Medicine and the Department of Ayurveda.
Anointing with oil at the auspicious time is considered to be a key tradition of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The main objective of the festival is to promote health and goodwill for a long life.
Meanwhile the auspicious time to leaving for work this New Year is at 6.03 on Thursday morning.
